Growing fears over insecurity and possible bandit infiltration have triggered an emergency stakeholders meeting across communities under the Aresa-Adu of Iresa-Adu land in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The development follows increasing security concerns in communities bordering Oriire LGA and neighbouring Kwara State, where bandit attacks and displacement of villagers have become major issues in recent years.
Residents say alarm bells have been ringing for months following reports of suspicious movements and alleged settlements of unknown persons in remote areas surrounding Iresa-Adu and nearby villages.
Community leaders disclosed that the absence of a substantive monarch on the Aresa-Adu throne for nearly eight years has affected coordinated local responses to emerging security threats.
Tension also increased after recent security incidents within the area, including the arrest of suspected cattle rustlers near Iresa-Adu earlier this year by officers of the Nigerian Police Force.
In another incident that circulated widely on social media, security operatives reportedly intercepted armed suspects within the community, recovering guns, cutlasses, charms and other dangerous weapons.
The emergency stakeholders meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, May 26, 2026, is expected to bring together traditional leaders, youths, religious leaders and residents from towns and villages across the territory.
According to community leaders, the aim of the gathering is to discuss proactive measures to strengthen local vigilance, improve intelligence sharing and support security agencies in protecting lives and property.
Residents insist the meeting has become necessary following rising fears of insecurity spreading across communities within the Ogbomoso zone and neighbouring areas.
Radio announcements and local mobilisation campaigns are currently underway to ensure mass participation at the crucial security meeting.
