The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, wanted for allegedly plotting to instigate public unrest and block major roads across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, announced this on Monday while addressing journalists at Iyana-Oworo, near the Third Mainland Bridge.
Jimoh accused Sowore, leader of the “Take It Back Movement,” of defying earlier police warnings against mobilising protests over the recent demolition of houses in Oworonshoki.
“We are closing in on Sowore and others involved in coordinating activities intended to disrupt public peace. He should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found,” Jimoh warned.
The commissioner said intelligence reports revealed that Sowore and his associates were planning simultaneous demonstrations at strategic points including the Third Mainland Bridge, Lekki Tollgate, and Freedom Park — a move he described as “criminal and dangerous.”
“It is only someone who needs examination that would attempt to block such a vital route used by thousands daily,” Jimoh stated, adding that 13 suspects linked to the planned protest had already been arrested while Sowore allegedly fled.
He said investigations were ongoing to identify the sponsors and collaborators behind the move, noting that police operatives had been deployed across major highways and bridges where temporary roadblocks were in place.
Addressing concerns over the demolitions, Jimoh insisted that the affected residents had been duly compensated and warned that no one should use the issue as an excuse to cause chaos.
“The government compensated those affected, and the media witnessed it. There is no justification to provoke a crisis under the guise of protest,” he maintained.
Jimoh urged residents to go about their normal activities, assuring that the command was fully prepared to maintain peace and order in Lagos.
“Freedom of expression must not turn into public nuisance or endanger lives. We will apprehend, investigate, and prosecute anyone attempting to undermine public safety,” he declared.
