Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed claims suggesting the existence of terrorist bases in Yorubaland, insisting that there is no established terrorist enclave in the South-West region.
Speaking on the issue, military authorities stated that security agencies remain vigilant and actively monitor all parts of the country to prevent the spread of insurgency and criminal activities.
According to the DHQ, while isolated security threats and criminal incidents may occur in some communities, there is no verified intelligence confirming the presence of organised terrorist camps in Yorubaland.
The military reassured residents of the South-West that security operations and intelligence gathering efforts are ongoing to ensure peace and stability across the region.
Authorities also urged citizens to remain calm, law-abiding and supportive of security agencies by providing useful information capable of helping to combat crime and insecurity.
The clarification follows growing concerns and discussions on social media regarding insecurity and the possible infiltration of extremist elements into parts of Southern Nigeria.
Security analysts say public reassurance from the military is important in preventing panic and misinformation, especially amid rising national security concerns.
The DHQ further reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces to protecting lives, defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and confronting all forms of terrorism and criminality nationwide.
