The Federal Government has secured about ₦700 billion to fund the rollout of two million electricity meters every year for the next five years under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI).
Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, noting that the initiative is aimed at ending the estimated billing system and ensuring transparency in power consumption.
According to Adelabu, the plan will bridge Nigeria’s metering gap and improve revenue collection efficiency in the power sector. He emphasized that the government is partnering with local meter manufacturers to ensure sustainability and job creation.
The Presidential Metering Initiative forms part of broader reforms to stabilize the power sector and enhance service delivery to consumers nationwide.
