The Enugu State Government on Monday inaugurated the Enugu State Gender-Based Violence Taskforce, an action stakeholders hailed as a major turning point in the state’s fight against gender-based violence.
The newly created taskforce is expected to coordinate prevention, reporting, and response mechanisms across communities, ensuring that victims receive timely support and justice. Officials noted that the initiative reflects the state’s renewed commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and enforcing existing laws on sexual and gender-based violence.
Speaking at the launch, government representatives and advocacy groups emphasized that the taskforce will strengthen institutional collaboration, improve public awareness, and accelerate the prosecution of offenders. The event also brought together civil society organisations, law-enforcement agencies, development partners, and community leaders.
They described the move as a proactive step toward creating a safer and more accountable environment for women, children, and other at-risk residents of the state.
