The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed the suspension of former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, warning that any engagement with him as a member of the party “is invalid and of no effect.”

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Lekan Adeniran, the APC said it had written to the National Chairman to report Daniel’s “continued public disregard for party discipline” despite his suspension. The letter, dated October 3, 2025, was jointly signed by the state chairman, Yemi Sanusi, and the secretary, Tella Aderibigbe.

Citing Article 21 (vii) of the APC constitution, the party maintained that a suspended member loses all privileges, including voting rights, attendance at meetings, and participation in party activities until the suspension is lifted. It urged government institutions, political actors, and the public not to recognise Daniel in any party-related capacity.

But Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, dismissed the suspension, describing it as a “script crafted to frustrate Otunba Daniel out of the APC” ahead of the 2027 elections. He alleged that the suspension was orchestrated by individuals threatened by Daniel’s rising influence and close ties with President Bola Tinubu.

Oliyide further claimed that Daniel had not received any suspension letter, insisting the document allegedly sent to the APC national leadership “exists only in the realm of conjecture.” He accused the governor’s media team of acting as the party’s spokesperson and questioned the authenticity of the unsigned statement circulated.

The aide added that the suspension was carried out by “an unknown Ward 4 executive in Sagamu Local Government,” whereas Daniel is registered in Ward 12 (Isote), whose leaders have already petitioned higher party organs to nullify the purported action.

He maintained that several members of the state executive had resisted pressure to validate the suspension, forcing its promoters to use “government machinery and operatives to carry out party assignments.”
