The All Progressives Congress on Tuesday criticised factional PDP National Chairman Tanimu Turaki for urging former US President Donald Trump to intervene in Nigeria’s political crisis, describing the appeal as reckless and harmful to national sovereignty.

In a statement released in Abuja, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said Turaki’s comments amounted to inviting foreign interference into Nigeria’s affairs, noting that such rhetoric poses a dangerous threat to the country’s stability.

The APC argued that instead of seeking outside intervention, Turaki—who was declared chairman by a faction only three days earlier—should be focused on resolving the deepening divisions within the PDP. The ruling party said his outburst reflects desperation and a lack of capacity to manage the opposition party’s turmoil.

The condemnation followed a violent clash at the PDP national secretariat between the camp loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the bloc backed by Governors Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Ahmadu Fintiri and Caleb Muftwang. Speaking after the confrontation, Turaki appealed to Trump and other “advanced democracies” to “save democracy in Nigeria,” insisting the situation threatened national security.

He also accused Wike—who was expelled from the PDP on Saturday—of storming the secretariat with loyalists and security personnel to disrupt scheduled NEC meetings.

The APC said Turaki’s call for foreign intervention confirms the PDP’s inability to handle its internal conflicts, adding that the international community would dismiss the appeal as a needless distraction. The party urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
