The South-East chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by some Igbo governors, insisting that the action does not reflect the views of the region’s people.
The party argued that political endorsements by elected officials should not be mistaken for the collective position of millions of South-East residents, many of whom hold differing political opinions.
According to ADC leaders, Nigerians should be allowed to freely assess the performance of political leaders and make independent decisions ahead of future elections.
The party maintained that the endorsement does not diminish ongoing efforts by opposition groups to present alternative visions for governance and national development.
ADC officials also called on political leaders to focus on addressing pressing issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and infrastructure deficits rather than engaging in premature political campaigns.
The development has added another dimension to the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and stakeholders increasingly positioning themselves for the contest.
