FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has said he does not need an official position in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council to help President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said his political influence and network are enough to enable him contribute to Tinubu’s re-election effort without being formally appointed to a campaign position.
The minister, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to express support for Tinubu despite the political differences between the ruling APC and the opposition party.
Wike has also maintained that his political decisions are based on his convictions and what he considers to be in the best interest of the country.
His comments come amid preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the APC already strengthening its structures and mobilising supporters across the country.
The former Rivers State governor has been particularly vocal about his support for Tinubu and has repeatedly criticised opposition politicians seeking to challenge the President.
Wike said he would continue to play his part politically without necessarily seeking an official role in the President’s campaign structure.
The statement also comes amid ongoing political realignments, with politicians across party lines positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
