FG PLANS HOUSING REGULATION AS SECTOR HITS ₦77TN CONTRIBUTION
The Federal Government has announced plans to introduce a comprehensive regulatory framework for Nigeria’s housing sector following its reported ₦77 trillion contribution to the nation’s economy in 2025.
Officials said the proposed regulation is aimed at strengthening the real estate industry, improving transparency, protecting investors, and ensuring higher standards in housing development across the country.
The government noted that the housing sector remains a key driver of economic growth, contributing significantly to job creation, infrastructure development, and wealth generation.
According to the authorities, the new framework will address challenges such as unregulated property transactions, substandard building practices, housing deficits, and consumer protection while promoting sustainable urban development.
The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to affordable housing through partnerships with private investors, developers, financial institutions, and state governments.
Officials said the planned reforms would encourage greater investment in the real estate sector, improve public confidence, and support the delivery of quality housing for Nigerians.
The government added that the proposed regulations form part of broader efforts to modernise the housing sector, strengthen economic growth, and ensure that the industry’s contribution to national development continues to increase.
