Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has revealed that he recommended Bimbo Adekanmbi for a ministerial appointment but President Bola Tinubu chose Adebayo Adelabu instead.
Makinde made the disclosure during a media chat on Fresh FM, where he recounted approaching Tinubu with Adekanmbi as his preferred candidate, expressing confidence in his ability to serve as a minister.
The governor also revisited the political alliance involving the G5 governors, claiming that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was the major beneficiary of the arrangement.
According to Makinde, Tinubu made most of the ministerial appointments, suggesting that other members of the G5 did not benefit significantly from the political alliance.
The G5 group, comprising five governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), became a major force in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2023 general election.
Makinde’s comments have renewed attention on the political negotiations and relationships that shaped the alliance and its implications for the parties involved.
