FUEL DISCOUNT: ATIKU SLAMS TINUBU OVER ‘N66 POLITICAL GIMMICK’
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the reported N66 petrol discount at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations, describing the initiative as a political gimmick.
Atiku questioned the rationale behind the discount, arguing that the measure raises concerns about its sustainability and the use of public resources to support the initiative.
The former vice president’s criticism comes amid continued public concern over petrol prices, transportation costs and the rising cost of living across Nigeria.
The petrol discount was presented as a temporary measure to provide relief to motorists and other consumers facing high fuel costs.
However, Atiku’s remarks have renewed debate over whether short-term price reductions can offer meaningful relief without addressing broader challenges in the petroleum sector.
The controversy also raises questions about the financial implications of the initiative for NNPC and the extent to which the discount will benefit ordinary Nigerians.
