Oyo State Governor and presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
Makinde’s campaign organisation made the demand while commiserating with the families of the victims and the Nigerian Armed Forces. The organisation said the crash raised concerns about the condition of military equipment, safety and the welfare of personnel.
The campaign, through its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, said the incident was particularly concerning given previous military aircraft crashes in the country.
It questioned whether the military is receiving adequate equipment, maintenance, training and welfare support, while acknowledging the sacrifices made by personnel serving the country.
The organisation called for a wide-ranging investigation to establish the cause of the latest crash and determine measures that could prevent similar incidents in the future.
The Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed near the Naval Base in Igbokoda while reportedly on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos. All personnel on board were reported dead.
The Defence Headquarters has ordered an investigation into the crash, while President Bola Tinubu has also directed that the circumstances surrounding the incident be thoroughly examined.
