TINUBU CONGRATULATES OSIKOYA, AWOLOWO ON BLACK MARKET GUINNESS RECORD

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian filmmakers Damilola Osikoya of Switch Visuals Productions and Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios on their achievement in setting a Guinness World Record with the film Black Market.

The record was achieved during the screening of Black Market at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on Saturday, September 26, 2026, where more than 51,000 people were officially recognised as having watched the film. Guinness World Records confirmed the attendance after the screening.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Osikoya and Awolowo for their creativity, enterprise and ambition.

The President described the achievement as further evidence of the talent driving Nigeria’s creative industry. He said the creative economy was creating businesses, jobs and new opportunities for Nigerian talent while taking the country’s stories and culture to audiences around the world.

The Black Market screening surpassed the previous Guinness World Record of 43,624 people, which was set in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino film Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena. Guinness recognised 51,000 viewers as the qualifying attendance based on those who remained from the beginning of the film until the end.

Tinubu also commended everyone involved in the production and record-breaking screening, expressing hope for greater achievements from the filmmakers and Nigeria’s creative industry.
