FLOOD: ANAMBRA URGES RESIDENTS TO TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

The Anambra State Government has alerted residents to the possibility of flooding following a forecast by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, urging people in vulnerable communities to take necessary precautionary measures.

The state government advised residents living in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and pay attention to weather and emergency alerts as the rainy season continues.

Residents were also encouraged to avoid activities that could put them at risk during heavy rainfall, particularly around waterways, drainage channels and other areas susceptible to flooding.

The government urged communities to keep drainage channels clear of refuse and avoid dumping waste in waterways, noting that blocked drainage systems can worsen flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.

It also called on residents to relocate to safer areas whenever necessary and cooperate with relevant emergency and environmental authorities in the event of flooding.

The government said relevant agencies would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary, while urging residents to remain calm but prepared.
