WHY I COULDN’T HAVE BEEN TINUBU’S CAMPAIGN DG — WIKE

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has explained why he could not have served as the Director-General of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential campaign for the 2027 election.
Wike said his current position and political circumstances make such an appointment inappropriate, despite his relationship with the President and his support for the administration.
The minister has remained one of the prominent political figures associated with Tinubu’s administration, even though he belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Wike has repeatedly defended his decision to work with the President, arguing that his involvement is based on political conviction and what he believes is in the interest of Nigeria.
However, he explained that occupying the position of campaign Director-General would create a different political situation and could conflict with his responsibilities as a serving minister.
The comments come as the All Progressives Congress (APC) intensifies preparations for the 2027 presidential election and begins putting its campaign structure together.
Wike has also continued to make strong political statements against opposition leaders, particularly those seeking to challenge Tinubu in the next presidential election.
His remarks are expected to fuel further discussion about his political role and his relationship with Tinubu as the 2027 contest draws closer.
