The Labour Party has distanced itself from its former National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, over his lawsuit seeking access to the academic records of Peter Obi.
The party said Arabambi’s legal action was not authorised or sanctioned by the Labour Party.
Arabambi had approached the court seeking an order compelling the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to release records relating to Obi’s academic credentials.
The case has generated political reactions, particularly as Obi remains a prominent political figure and potential contender in the 2027 presidential election.
The Labour Party’s position makes it clear that the lawsuit is being pursued by Arabambi in his individual capacity and does not represent the official position of the party.
The legal proceedings are expected to determine whether the institutions will be required to release the records being sought.
