TINUBU, CANCEL WAEC VERIFICATION FEES
President Bola Tinubu has been urged to intervene and cancel the newly introduced N4,000 fee for the verification of West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificates.
The call follows concerns over the financial burden the verification charge could place on Nigerian students and graduates who require certificate verification for employment, education and other official purposes.
Those opposing the fee described it as excessive and argued that it could make it more difficult for young Nigerians, particularly those seeking opportunities abroad, to complete necessary documentation.
They called on the Federal Government to review the policy and ensure that the cost of certificate verification does not become an additional barrier for students and graduates.
The demand has put renewed attention on the cost of accessing education-related services in Nigeria, with stakeholders urging the government to consider measures that would make such services more affordable.
The Federal Government and relevant education authorities are expected to respond to the concerns as discussions over the verification charge continue.
