The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for facilitating a landmark 15-year gas supply agreement for the UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project.
PANDEF described the agreement as a significant development for Nigeria’s gas industry, saying it could accelerate industrialisation, attract investment, and unlock greater economic opportunities in the Niger Delta.
The forum said the long-term gas deal provides greater certainty for the UTM FLNG project and could help strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global liquefied natural gas market.
According to PANDEF, the project has the potential to create jobs, stimulate businesses in host communities, and generate additional revenue for the country while supporting the development of Nigeria’s vast gas resources.
The organisation also praised the Federal Government for supporting initiatives that seek to move Nigeria beyond the export of raw resources and towards greater value addition within the domestic economy.
PANDEF urged the government to maintain the momentum by ensuring that projects in the Niger Delta receive the necessary institutional and infrastructure support to succeed.
It further called for greater involvement of Niger Delta communities in the economic opportunities created by major oil and gas investments, particularly through employment, skills development, and local contracting.
The forum expressed optimism that the UTM FLNG project and the 15-year gas agreement would contribute to Nigeria’s energy security, industrial growth, and broader economic development.
