NORTHERN CHRISTIAN GROUP BACKS CATHOLIC BISHOPS, REBUKES BWALA

The Northern Christian Association has expressed support for the recent meeting between Catholic bishops and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while criticising presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala over his remarks concerning Cardinal John Onaiyekan.
In a statement, the group said the Catholic bishops were within their rights to engage with the President on issues affecting the nation, describing such dialogue as part of the Church’s longstanding role in promoting peace, justice, and national development.
The association faulted Bwala’s comments, accusing him of making statements capable of creating unnecessary divisions within the Christian community.
According to the group, Christian leaders, regardless of denomination, have the constitutional right to speak on national issues and should not be subjected to attacks or attempts to undermine their credibility.
The association urged political leaders and government officials to respect religious institutions and promote constructive engagement with faith-based organisations in addressing the country’s challenges.
It also called on Christians across Nigeria to remain united despite differences in denomination, stressing that unity is essential for advancing the common interests of the Christian community and the nation.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful coexistence, interfaith harmony, and national unity, urging all parties to embrace dialogue and mutual respect in the interest of Nigeria’s stability and progress.
