$1TN ECONOMY: GOVERNANCE BEFORE GRANDSTANDING — SHETTIMA
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has said Nigeria cannot achieve its ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy without strong corporate governance, institutional discipline, and accountable leadership.
Speaking on the country’s economic aspirations, Shettima stressed that sustainable growth depends on building credible institutions, promoting transparency, and strengthening governance across both the public and private sectors.
He noted that while ambitious economic targets are important, they must be supported by sound policies, responsible management, and effective implementation rather than political rhetoric.
According to the Vice-President, good corporate governance encourages investor confidence, improves business performance, and creates an environment that attracts both local and foreign investments.
Shettima also called on business leaders, regulators, and policymakers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and ethical leadership in order to drive long-term economic development.
He added that institutional reforms, policy consistency, and collaboration between government and the private sector are essential to unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential and creating jobs for millions of citizens.
The Vice-President reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to implementing reforms that will strengthen governance, improve the investment climate, and position Nigeria on the path toward achieving a $1 trillion economy.
