Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that while he is a committed Christian, he is not a pastor, stressing that politics operates under its own principles and realities.
Wike made the remark while responding to criticisms over his political decisions, saying his faith should not be confused with his responsibilities as a politician and public office holder.
According to the minister, political leadership often requires difficult decisions that may not always satisfy everyone, but such decisions must be guided by the overall interest of the people and the stability of the nation.
He maintained that his actions in the political arena are driven by his convictions and commitment to governance, rather than by personal sentiments or religious expectations.
Wike also called on Nigerians to distinguish between religious leadership and political leadership, noting that the demands and responsibilities of both are different.
The former Rivers State governor reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country diligently, saying he would continue to support policies and initiatives he believes will promote peace, development, and national progress.
He urged political stakeholders to focus on constructive engagement, respect differing opinions, and work together to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and foster national unity.
