DSS FREES, COMPENSATES MAN WRONGFULLY ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED BOKO HARAM LINKS
The Department of State Services (DSS) has released and compensated a man who was wrongfully arrested after being mistakenly linked to the Boko Haram insurgent group.
The agency acknowledged that investigations established the man had no connection with the terrorist organisation and that his arrest resulted from mistaken identity.
Following his release, the DSS also provided compensation as part of efforts to address the hardship and inconvenience caused by the wrongful detention.
Security sources said the agency remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and respecting the rights of innocent citizens while carrying out its mandate to safeguard national security.
The development has been welcomed by legal practitioners and human rights advocates, who described it as a positive step towards accountability and public confidence in the country’s security institutions.
The DSS reiterated that it would continue to review its operational procedures to minimise errors while intensifying efforts against terrorism and other threats to national security.
The incident underscores the importance of thorough investigations and due process in security operations.
