PDP GOV CANDIDATE LAMENTS BVAS FAILURE
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the Ekiti State election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has expressed frustration over the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), alleging that technical challenges affected the accreditation process in several polling units.
Speaking during the election, Oluyede described the slow functioning of the device as unacceptable, claiming that many voters were forced to endure long waiting periods before they could be accredited.
According to the PDP candidate, the delays created unnecessary hardship for voters and could discourage citizen participation in the electoral process.
“The BVAS is not working as expected. It is very slow, and people are becoming frustrated. This is not what Nigerians should experience during an election,” he reportedly said.
Oluyede called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to urgently address the technical issues and ensure that every eligible voter is given the opportunity to cast their ballot without undue delays.
He stressed that elections must be conducted in a transparent, credible, and efficient manner to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
The PDP candidate also urged electoral officials to take immediate corrective measures in affected areas to prevent disenfranchisement of voters.
Meanwhile, election observers and stakeholders continued to monitor developments across the state, with calls for calm and adherence to electoral guidelines as voting progressed.
INEC has consistently maintained that the BVAS technology remains a critical tool for enhancing election credibility by improving voter verification and reducing electoral malpractice.
The Ekiti governorship election is being closely watched by political parties, observers, and residents as voters decide who will lead the state in the coming years.
