FG REJECTS IMF TAX PROPOSAL: NO NEW FUEL OR TELECOM LEVIES COMING
The Federal Government has dismissed reports suggesting that new taxes will be imposed on fuel and telecommunications services following recommendations by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Government officials clarified that IMF recommendations are advisory in nature and not binding on Nigeria, stressing that there are currently no plans to introduce additional taxes on fuel or telecom services.
According to the government, decisions on taxation and economic policy will continue to be guided by national priorities, economic realities, and the welfare of Nigerians.
The clarification comes amid public concern that new levies could further increase the cost of living and place additional financial pressure on households and businesses.
Officials assured citizens that the administration remains focused on economic reforms aimed at promoting growth, increasing revenue, and improving public services without imposing unnecessary burdens on the population.
The government also urged Nigerians to disregard misinformation and rely on official statements regarding fiscal and economic policies.
