The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has suggested that some Nigerians may consider advocating for a constitutional amendment to allow President Bola Tinubu a third term in office, citing what he described as decisive leadership.

The monarch made the remark while commenting on the current administration’s policies and governance style, noting that strong leadership could inspire calls for continuity beyond the existing constitutional limits.

According to him, if Nigerians continue to see improvements in governance and national development, there may be increased public support for extending leadership tenure through legal means.

However, Nigeria’s constitution currently permits a maximum of two terms for elected presidents, and any move toward a third term would require significant constitutional amendments and broad national consensus.

Political analysts say such comments often reflect individual opinions rather than formal policy positions, adding that any constitutional change would involve complex legislative processes and public debate.

The statement has sparked discussions on governance, leadership continuity and constitutional boundaries within Nigeria’s democratic system.
