Village Boys Movement intensifies pressure on ADC to cede presidential ticket to Obi
A political advocacy group, the Village Boys Movement, has intensified calls on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to cede its presidential ticket to former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, in a statement, argued that Obi remains a strong contender with widespread grassroots support, particularly among young voters and reform-minded Nigerians. It urged the ADC leadership to consider adopting him as its flagbearer in order to strengthen the party’s chances in the upcoming polls.
According to the movement, presenting a consensus candidate with national appeal could help unify opposition forces and provide a credible alternative to the ruling party. The group also stressed the importance of building a broad coalition capable of mobilising voters across different regions.
The call comes amid ongoing political realignments and discussions within opposition circles about potential alliances and strategies ahead of the next election cycle.
However, analysts note that decisions regarding party tickets will depend on internal processes, negotiations and the broader political dynamics within the ADC and other opposition platforms.
Observers say the development highlights increasing early mobilisation and strategic positioning as stakeholders begin to shape the narrative for the 2027 elections.
