A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) believed to be aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports suggesting it plans to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Leaders of the group stated that the PDP remains committed to presenting its own candidate for the presidential race, stressing that speculations about any form of alliance with the ruling party are unfounded. They maintained that internal disagreements within the party should not be interpreted as a shift in its political position.

According to the faction, efforts are ongoing to strengthen party structures, reconcile aggrieved members and reposition the PDP as a credible alternative ahead of future electoral contests. The group also urged supporters to remain focused on promoting unity and organisational discipline.

Political observers say the clarification reflects continuing tensions within the opposition party as stakeholders navigate leadership disputes and strategic alignments in preparation for the next election cycle.

The faction reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and expressed confidence that the party would resolve its internal challenges through dialogue and lawful processes.
