Group reaffirms confidence in IG, urges support for police reforms
A civic advocacy group has expressed renewed confidence in the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, while calling on Nigerians to support ongoing reforms aimed at improving the effectiveness and public perception of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued after a stakeholders’ meeting, the group commended recent efforts to strengthen professionalism, enhance accountability and modernise policing operations across the country. It noted that sustained public cooperation is essential to achieving meaningful progress in security and law enforcement.
The organisation also highlighted the importance of community policing initiatives, improved welfare for officers and the adoption of technology-driven strategies to tackle crime and maintain public safety.
According to the group, building trust between citizens and the police remains a critical factor in addressing insecurity and promoting social stability. It urged government institutions, civil society organisations and community leaders to collaborate in supporting reform measures.
Security analysts say that successful police reforms require consistent policy implementation, transparent oversight and active citizen engagement to ensure long-term impact.
The group concluded by encouraging Nigerians to remain law-abiding and to work closely with security agencies in fostering a safer and more secure environment nationwide.
