Sanusi to lead Sallah Durbar as Kano tightens security
The Kano State Government has confirmed that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, will lead the traditional Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) procession during the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, amid heightened security arrangements across the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, the government disclosed that credible intelligence reports had indicated plans by some individuals to disrupt public peace during the festive period. He said authorities were therefore putting measures in place to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
According to the statement, while the state remains committed to preserving its rich cultural heritage, it will prioritise the safety of residents and visitors throughout the celebrations. The government noted that the Emir would personally lead the Durbar procession from the Kofar Mata Eid praying ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, ending at Kofar Fatalwa near the Emir’s palace.
However, officials announced adjustments to some traditional activities in the interest of security. The Hawan Nasarawa procession will be held in a modified format without horseback displays, while other events such as Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended until subsequent celebrations.
Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and ensure strict compliance with the new guidelines before, during and after the Sallah festivities. Residents were also urged to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel and refrain from spreading unverified information that could cause panic.
The government commended the dedication of security operatives and expressed optimism that the measures would help guarantee a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kano State.
