Police foil cattle rustling, arrest four suspects in Oyo
Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested four suspects over their alleged involvement in cattle rustling at Ado-Awaye in Iseyin Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following a security operation carried out in response to intelligence reports about the activities of cattle rustlers in the area. The operation, which involved collaboration with local vigilante groups, reportedly led to the interception of the suspects while attempting to move stolen livestock.
According to the command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may be linked to a network engaged in the theft and illegal sale of cattle across communities within the local government and neighbouring areas.
Recovered livestock were said to have been secured and arrangements made for their return to the rightful owners, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected syndicate.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting farmers and livestock owners from criminal activities, urging residents to provide timely and credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing similar incidents.
Authorities also advised community members to strengthen cooperation with law enforcement agencies and remain vigilant, particularly in rural areas where cattle rustling and related offences have posed security concerns.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
