ADC Attacks Akpabio Over Electoral Act Comment
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio over his remarks regarding the proposed Electoral Act 2026, describing his position as harmful to Nigeriaโs democratic process.
In a statement released by the party, ADC leaders accused the Senate President of supporting provisions that could weaken electoral transparency and accountability.
The party argued that certain aspects of the proposed electoral framework appear to protect political actors accused of electoral misconduct, rather than strengthening the credibility of elections in the country.
According to the ADC, any attempt to introduce laws that shield dishonesty or reduce electoral integrity would undermine public trust in Nigeriaโs democratic institutions.
The party therefore called on lawmakers to prioritize reforms that promote free, fair, and transparent elections, stressing that the Electoral Act should serve the interests of the Nigerian people rather than political elites.
ADC further urged the National Assembly to ensure that any amendments to electoral laws strengthen democracy and improve confidence in the electoral system.
