The Rivers State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the removal of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official portrait from the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The state government described the allegation as false, misleading and politically motivated, insisting that no such action was taken by the governor or any official of the state administration.

Reacting to the report in a statement issued on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications said there was no directive, policy or instruction authorising the removal of the President’s portrait from Government House or any other public building in the state.

According to the statement, the claim originated from unverified sources and was designed to stir political tension and misrepresent the position of the Rivers State Government.

“The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to a misleading report alleging that Governor Siminalayi Fubara removed the official portrait of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Government House. This claim is entirely false and should be disregarded,” the statement read.

The government stressed that Governor Fubara has consistently shown respect for the Presidency and maintains a cordial working relationship with the Federal Government.

It added that symbols of the Presidency, including official portraits, remain intact in Government House and other relevant state facilities.

The state government further warned individuals and groups against spreading unverified information capable of inflaming public opinion, urging residents to rely on official channels for accurate information.

“The Rivers State Government remains committed to peace, cooperation with the Federal Government and responsible governance,” the statement added.

The clarification comes amid heightened political tension in the state following disagreements between political actors and renewed public scrutiny of relations between the state and the Federal Government.
