Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has stated that defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu politically would require what he described as “red eye” determination rather than reliance solely on court action.

Baba-Ahmed made the remark in a video currently circulating on social media, where he reflected on the outcome of the 2023 presidential election and the legal challenges that followed. According to him, while the judiciary has its role, true political change must be driven by strong grassroots mobilisation, vigilance, and unwavering resolve.

He argued that opposition parties must focus more on building structures, engaging voters, and protecting votes, stressing that electoral victory is achieved primarily at the polls and not in courtrooms.

The former vice-presidential candidate’s comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters agreeing that political organisation is key, while critics interpret the “red eye” phrase as unnecessarily confrontational.

Despite the controversy, Baba-Ahmed maintained that his statement was a call for strategic political engagement and active participation in the democratic process, not an endorsement of violence or unlawful actions.
