Sokoto State governor and serving senator Aminu Tambuwal has warned that Nigeria is facing a grave crisis, declaring that the country is “in danger” and urgently needs collective action to avert further decline.

Tambuwal made the statement in Abuja on Saturday while speaking at a colloquium organised to mark his 60th birthday. He said the gathering was not meant to celebrate his personal milestones but to provide a platform for deep reflection on Nigeria’s current challenges and the way forward.

According to the former governor, the nation is grappling with multiple problems ranging from economic hardship and insecurity to weak institutions and declining public trust in governance. He stressed that these challenges have placed Nigeria at a critical crossroads, requiring urgent and sincere intervention.

“We are in peril as a nation, and we must be honest with ourselves,” Tambuwal said. “This is not about me or my birthday. It is about Nigeria and how we can collectively find a pathway to rescue and rebuild our country.”

He called on political leaders, professionals, youths, and civil society groups to rise above partisan interests and personal ambitions to work together for national renewal. Tambuwal added that meaningful progress would only be achieved through inclusive dialogue, good governance, accountability, and policies that genuinely address the welfare of citizens.

The senator also emphasised the need for leaders to listen to the frustrations of Nigerians, particularly the youth, noting that widespread hardship and disillusionment pose a serious threat to national stability if left unaddressed.

The colloquium, which attracted politicians, academics, technocrats, and public commentators, featured discussions on Nigeria’s political future, economic reforms, national unity, and democratic consolidation.

Tambuwal concluded by urging Nigerians not to lose hope, saying that despite the current difficulties, the country can still be salvaged through collective resolve and responsible leadership.
