The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that political parties no longer exist in Rivers State, insisting that all structures have collapsed into a single political movement aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Wike made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing political stakeholders at an event held in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to the former Rivers governor, the growing political alignment in the state transcends party affiliations, as leaders and supporters across different platforms have come together to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“In Rivers State today, there is no political party anymore. What we have now is the Renewed Hope family,” Wike said. “Everybody is working together for the success of President Tinubu and the development of the country.”
He argued that the coalition was driven by performance and shared interests rather than partisan loyalty, adding that the Tinubu administration deserved continuity to fully implement its policies and reforms.
Wike urged stakeholders to prioritise unity and grassroots mobilisation, noting that internal divisions would only slow development and weaken the state’s influence at the national level. He also called on political leaders to focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people, rather than engaging in party rivalries.
The FCT minister’s remarks come amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, where alignments and counter-alignments have intensified ahead of future elections. His comments are widely seen as a strong signal of his political direction and continued influence within the state.
Observers say the statement could further reshape Rivers State’s political landscape, as more politicians reassess their positions in response to emerging power blocs linked to the federal government.
