Kwara APC Chairman Fagbemi Dares Saraki to Join Party
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Sunday Fagbemi, has challenged former Senate President Bukola Saraki to formally join the ruling party in the state rather than maintaining what he described as back-channel engagements with the APC leadership in Abuja.
Fagbemi made the remark while reacting to recent political developments in Kwara State, insisting that Saraki should demonstrate political courage by aligning openly with the APC structure in the state under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to the Kwara APC chairman, the party remains open to new members but would not tolerate what he termed “political double standards,” where opposition figures seek relevance through informal associations without committing to party discipline at the state level.
“If Senator Bukola Saraki truly believes in the APC and its ideology, he should come to Kwara and join the party properly under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, instead of hobnobbing with party leaders in Abuja,” Fagbemi said.
He stressed that the APC in Kwara is firmly rooted at the grassroots and operates a unified structure, adding that any individual seeking membership must respect the party’s leadership and internal processes within the state.
Fagbemi further accused Saraki of attempting to remain politically relevant through indirect engagements, rather than confronting the political reality in Kwara State, where the APC currently controls the government.
He reaffirmed that Governor AbdulRazaq enjoys the full backing of the party leadership and members across the state, noting that the APC has continued to consolidate its influence through governance reforms and grassroots mobilisation.
Saraki, a former governor of Kwara State and ex-leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, has remained a key figure in national opposition politics, although speculations have persisted over his future political alignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement by the Kwara APC chairman has further intensified political conversations in the state, as parties and political actors begin early positioning ahead of the next election cycle.
