The Presidency says Nigeriaโ€™s swift response to the foiled coup attempt in Benin Republic reflects President Bola Tinubuโ€™s commitment to safeguarding stability and constitutional order within the West African region.

According to the statement, Tinubu, who chairs ECOWAS, has continued to emphasise dialogue, diplomatic pressure and collective security as the best ways to prevent political disruptions across neighbouring countries. It added that Nigeriaโ€™s contribution to the situation in Benin underscores the countryโ€™s longstanding role in defending democratic governance in West Africa.

The Presidency noted that the aborted coup further highlights the importance of regional cooperation and early intervention, stressing that Nigeria will keep supporting efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability across the sub-region.
