A final-year student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Joshua Temitope Oladepo, has alleged that his name was removed from the 2025 graduation list because he joined a protest against the visit of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, to the campus.

Oladepo said he had cleared all academic requirements and paid the convocation fee of ₦40,000, but his name no longer appeared on the convocation portal. He believes this action was taken as punishment for participating in the protest, where students opposed Wike’s Distinguished Personality Lecture held on June 5, 2025.

OAU management, however, denied that protesting students were arrested, saying they were only escorted out of the venue. Reports indicate that Joshua and another student were briefly detained before being handed over to the police and later released.
