Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Federal Government to launch an immediate investigation into the escalating insecurity across the country, following a surge in mass kidnappings and deadly bandit attacks.
In a statement posted on his verified X account on Wednesday, Kwankwaso condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State. The students were kidnapped early Monday after gunmen riding motorcycles invaded the school and engaged security operatives in a shootout.
He also criticised the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State, describing it as a serious setback in Nigeriaโs counter-terrorism efforts. Kwankwaso demanded a thorough probe into the security lapses that made the attack possible.
The former governor further lamented recent mass abductions in Zamfara State, calling the situation โheartbreakingโ and urging authorities to ensure the swift rescue of all victims.
Kwankwaso highlighted fresh attacks in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of Kano State, warning that the recurrent violence requires immediate federal intervention. He commended the Kano State Government for donating vehicles to security agencies, but stressed that a more aggressive and coordinated approach is urgently required.
โThese areas have witnessed repeated violence. In one incident, bandits crossed from Katsina State and killed three villagers. In another raid, two nursing mothers were abducted in the Faruruwa community of Shanono, further heightening fear among residents,โ he said.
Kwankwaso emphasised that the incidents are not isolated but reflect deeper security failures. He called on the government to strengthen the armed forces, empower the Nigeria Police Force, and restore public confidence.
The Kebbi State Police Command has since confirmed that at least 25 students were abducted during Mondayโs school attack, where the Vice Principal was also killed.
