The Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for appointing Major General Waidi Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff.

In a statement released on Friday by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Ododo described the appointment as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to fairness, equity, and merit in national service.

President Tinubu on Friday approved major changes in the military hierarchy, appointing Shaibu to replace Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who now serves as the Chief of Defence Staff. Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke was named Chief of Air Staff, while Rear Admiral Idi Abbas was appointed Chief of Naval Staff.

Governor Ododo said Shaibu’s elevation was a source of pride to the people of Kogi State, noting that his professionalism, discipline, and dedication had distinguished him as a patriotic officer.

He expressed confidence in Shaibu’s ability to strengthen the Nigerian Army and sustain efforts to improve national security.

While congratulating the new Army Chief, Ododo assured President Tinubu of the continued support and loyalty of the Kogi people to his administration. He also prayed for divine wisdom and protection for Shaibu in the discharge of his duties.
