The Federal Government has ordered vice-chancellors of all federal universities to implement the “no work, no pay” policy against members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) currently on strike.

The directive, issued in a circular signed by Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized that government would no longer tolerate violations of labour laws.

The circular—copied to top officials including the Head of Service, Accountant-General, and National Universities Commission—instructed vice-chancellors to conduct physical headcounts of academic staff and submit reports distinguishing those working from those participating in the strike.

Alausa ordered that salaries for the strike period be withheld for lecturers who fail to perform their duties.
