CBN gov urges strong fiscal-monetary coordination

CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso stressed the importance of close coordination between Nigeria’s fiscal and monetary authorities to sustain reforms and attract long-term investment.
Speaking at London Business School’s Wheeler Institute for Business and Development, he highlighted that communication itself is a policy tool — ensuring citizens and investors understand reforms builds trust and policy effectiveness.
The dialogue, moderated by Professor Hélène Rey and supported by J.P. Morgan and Goldman Sachs, focused on Nigeria’s reform path amid global economic shifts.
Cardoso said reforms like FX unification and subsidy rationalisation were necessary despite short-term pain, calling them “the price of progress.”
