Minister Resigns Amid Certificate Forgery Claims

Former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office following allegations of certificate forgery.
Presidency sources revealed that President Bola Tinubu directed Nnaji to step down after reports emerged that he submitted forged university and NYSC certificates during his ministerial screening in 2023.
Nnaji had claimed to hold a degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), obtained in 1985. However, the institution denied issuing the certificate, stating that he never completed his studies.
The controversy began after an investigative report uncovered discrepancies in his academic records. The university, in a letter dated October 2, 2025, confirmed that no degree was awarded to him.
In response, Nnaji filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking to restrain the university from releasing his records. In the court documents, he admitted he had not yet collected his certificate—contradicting his earlier claim.
Justice Hausa Yilwa, in a ruling delivered on September 22, dismissed Nnaji’s application. Following this, President Tinubu reportedly invited the minister to the Presidential Villa, where he was instructed to resign.
