Jonathan Weighs ADC Option Amid Comeback Reports

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly considering joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as opposition forces under the party intensify efforts to form a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to multiple ADC National Working Committee members, who spoke anonymously, consultations have been ongoing with key political stakeholders across Nigeria.

Speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to the presidential race has resurfaced, with some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urging him to run on their platform, while others caution him against it.

Public opinion remains divided on Jonathan’s eligibility, citing the 2018 constitutional amendment that prevents anyone sworn in twice as president or governor from contesting again.

Jonathan has recently stepped up his public and political activities, attending national events and holding meetings with political figures — including Peter Obi (Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate) on September 12, and ADC National Chairman David Mark and other coalition leaders on September 25.
