FG orders night construction on Abuja-Keffi road
The Federal Government has directed contractors handling the expansion of the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to begin night construction in a bid to ease the daily gridlock faced by thousands of commuters along the route into the Federal Capital Territory.
The Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Bello Goronyo, gave the directive on Thursday during an inspection of the project. He noted that the move became necessary as motorists continue to endure worsening congestion, particularly around the Nyanya-Maraba axis.
Goronyo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Abuja-Keffi road rehabilitation within the December 2026 deadline.
The Abuja-Keffi dual carriageway is one of the busiest entry points into Abuja, serving civil servants, traders, and residents commuting daily from Nasarawa State and neighbouring towns. For years, the road has been plagued by heavy traffic, flooding, and poor drainage, making it a constant source of frustration.
According to the minister, significant progress has been achieved on the Keffi-bound section, but a three-kilometre stretch of the Abuja-bound carriageway remains problematic due to flooding and waterlogging.
He stressed that the government is aware of the plight of commuters and has therefore instructed contractors to adopt immediate measures, including night construction, to reduce the hardship faced by road users.
