FG begins payment of N32,000 pension increment to retirees – PTAD

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has announced the commencement of payment of the recently approved pension increment for retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
In a statement released on its official X handle on Tuesday, PTAD said the increment will reflect in the September 2025 payroll cycle, bringing relief to over 832,000 pensioners.
The package includes a fixed N32,000 monthly increase, alongside percentage adjustments of 10.66% and 12.95% for eligible categories of pensioners.
The development follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval in August of new welfare measures for pensioners, after a formal request by PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, for emergency budgetary allocation to fund the reforms.
The measures also cover:
Harmonisation of pensions across all DBS pensioners,
Inclusion of retirees in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),
Settlement of longstanding unfunded pension liabilities.
PTAD explained that a partial release of N820.188 billion from the Federal Ministry of Finance has made the impl
ementation possible.
