Anambra ADC Candidate Raises Alarm Over Vote-Buying Ahead of Poll

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the forthcoming Anambra election, Mr. John Nwosu, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to intensify efforts to curb vote-buying during the November 8 poll.
Nwosu, one of the 16 candidates cleared by INEC to contest, warned that the credibility of the election would be undermined if vote-buying—common in past elections—was allowed to persist.
He described as troubling the trend of voters openly trading their ballots with party agents at polling stations, saying the practice “reduces elections to an auction where the state is handed to the highest bidder.”
The ADC candidate urged INEC to provide secure voting cubicles and other safeguards that would protect voters’ rights and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is seeking re-election in the contest, which will see his party square off with the ADC and other contenders.
