PSC names conference hall after late Solomon Arase

The Police Service Commission has renamed its Chairman’s Conference Hall in honour of its late Chairman and former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, in a statement on Thursday, said the sixth-floor facility at the commission’s headquarters will now be called Solomon Arase Hall.
Arase, Nigeria’s 18th Inspector General of Police (April 2015–June 2016), later chaired the PSC until his passing on August 31, 2025, at the age of 69.
At a night of tributes, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), represented by Aminu Malumfashi, hailed him as “a police officer of repute, a scholar and a reformer … a gentleman of rare courage and intellect.”
Funeral rites continue with a requiem mass today (Friday) at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama. A lying in state will follow on Saturday at his Abuja residence before the body is flown to Benin, Edo State, for burial on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Ani added that a strong PSC delegation will attend the Edo burial rites to honour the late chairman.
