The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to urgently submit a list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation in order to ensure the smooth running of government in the state.

The Assembly made the call on Thursday during its first plenary session following the end of the six-month emergency rule declared earlier in the year. The sitting was presided over by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule.

During the plenary, the lawmakers also resolved that Governor Fubara should immediately begin the process of preparing and presenting an Appropriation Bill to the House for consideration and passage, so that a budget framework can be in place for the remaining part of 2025.

The resolutions were part of a motion adopted by the House to restore normal legislative and executive functions in the state after months of political tension and restrictions.

Amaewhule, while reading the resolutions, stressed that the appointment of commissioners was crucial to effective governance, noting that many ministries in the state had remained without substantive heads since the political crisis that engulfed the state earlier in the year.

He added that presenting an appropriation law was necessary to ensure proper planning, spending, and accountability in government activities for the rest of the fiscal year.

The development comes at a time when political stakeholders and residents of Rivers State are closely watching the actions of Governor Fubara, following his return to office after the emergency rule.
